How you can help...

Community Church

The Community Church of the Good Shepherd (CCOGS) was established at Ethel Bailey Close as a result of the Epsom hospitals 'cluster' closures as a way still enable residents with learning disabilities to continue attending a weekly Sunday morning service Church service, similar to the ones they had attended when living in the hospital facility. After the Ethel Bailey Close closed, CCOGS moved home to take place at St. Barnabas Church to continue to provide a place for people to join old and new friends to enjoy their own inclusive worship service.

Over the past year CCOGS attendance has dropped due to a range of issues, and we have taken the decision to cease providing the monthly CCOGS service.  Instead, we are choosing to focus on helping people with learning disabilities of all faiths to engage with their own form of worship in the community. We are developing a 'Faith Buddies' as a strand of our existing Buddy scheme – volunteer friends who will support their buddy to attend a mainstream place of worship in the local community, as part of developing a more inclusive community.

We are also developing a list of inclusive worship and faith facilities within the local community, to help sign-post those who would like to attend. This list will be published on our website it due course and updated as necessary.  If you have any recommendations of inclusive opportunities, or you would like to know how to make your current faith/worship service inclusive for those with learning disabilities, please get in touch via email (enquiries@sunnybanktrust.org) or telephone (01372 749871).

We would like to thank the CCOGS team of volunteers and those who have supported the project. The services have always been informal, creative and welcoming. None of this would have been possible without their dedication.
